wet sheet pack
1. apply warming measure, i.e. hot foot bath or exercise
2. pillow at head of table
3. fold first sheet quarter lengthwise, lay across table right below pillow, leave 2 feet over on therapist's side of table
4. lay blanket lengthwise with extra off table towards practitioner
5. lay second blanket with extra off table on other side
6. dip second sheet in cool water, wring out
7. spread wet sheet over blanket, with a little extra on practitioner side
8. patient lies supine on wet sheet with shoulders a few inches below top of sheet
9. while patient holds arms up, fold one side of wet sheet over patient; have patient drop arms
10. pull long side of sheet over body
11. tuck and smooth sheet, removing air pockets
12. fold blankets over patient, tucking in, avoiding air pockets; wrap under feet
13. keep feet warm with hot water bottle or hydrocollator
14. apply cold compress to head as necessary
stage:
1st: tonic: 5-20 min.; patient goes from chilly to not chilly
2nd: sedative: 15 min. - 1 hr.; patient goes from not chilly to hot
3rd: stimulative: half - 1 hr.; patient goes from hot to sweating
4th: detoxifying: 1 - 2 hr.; patient goes from sweating to conclusion
contraindications:
extreme debility
acute asthma
GENERAL INDICATIONS:
1st stage: weakness, fever, convalescence
2nd stage: restlessness, melancholy, neurasthenia, delirium, nervousness, hysteria, epilepsy, nervous indigestion
3rd stage: malabsorption, liver congestion, sinus congestion
4th stage: jaundice, environmental intoxication, preventive cleansing
