These foods contain indoles and dithiolthiones which seem to suppress the activation of cancer-causing substances in animals. In vitro cabbage juice suppresses precancerous cell changes and thus is called a "desmutagen". Other isolates in cabbage are: chlorophyll, dithiolthiones, flavonoids, indoles, isothiocyanates, phenols (caffeic and ferulic acids), vitamin E and vitamin C. These foods are especially beneficial in protection from radiation, colon cancer. (Carper, pp. 60-61)
