definition and etiology

» conventional diagnoses: food sensitivities; dyspepsia; food poisoning; peptic ulcer; colitis

» etiology: Spleen Qi Xu (Deficiency), due to poor nutrition, overwork, lack of exercise, etc.) together with Liver Qi Stagnation and Shi (Excess) (due to anger, frustration, resentment, unexpressed emotions, lack of exercise, etc.)

signs and symptoms

• irritability

• frustration

• fatigue

abdominal pain and distension

• flatulence

alternating constipation and diarrhea

» pulse: wiry on left (esp. middle, Spleen position), empty or weak on right (esp. middle, Liver position)

» tongue: pale, with Spleen Xu (Deficiency) predominating; sides can be red, with Liver Shi (Excess) predominating
