feng shi = wind market

location: On the lateral aspect of the thigh, behind the femur, 7 cun above the popliteal crease, or at the place that the tip of the middle finger touches the thigh as it hangs freely at the side.

diagnostic uses: gynecological and premenstrual syndrome reflex point (Matsumoto)

actions: detoxifies the Liver and clears mind of toxic thoughts (Finkelstein, p. 68); disperses Wind and Cold; extinguishes Internal Wind; clears Heat and transforms Damp; strengthens the waist, thighs and knees; strengthens bones; relaxes and strengthens sinews and tendons

indications: paralysis, incl. paralysis in children; hemiplegia; chorea; headache; eyes red and swollen; soreness and pain in lower back and leg; paralysis of lower limbs; weakness of legs, esp. knees; numbness, stiffness of lower leg and foot; itching on one side of body; urticaria; herpes zoster; pruritus; boils; skin ulcers

needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 1.0 - 3.0 cun, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension possibly spreading inferiorly

moxa: 5 - 7 cones of direct moxa; 10 - 15 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole

combinations:

» with GB-30, GB-34, lan wei xue, GB-39, St-41, jiu nei fan, jiu nei fan #1, jiu nei fan #2, and St-36 (can also add: tan li, luo di, UB-60, Lv-3, GB-41 and UB-64) for sequelae of cerebrovascular accident effecting the lower limb(s) (Shanghai, p. 621);

» with St-33 for weak legs (Shanghai, p. 266); for pain in the thighs and knees (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 131);

» with UB-54/40 and LI-2 for low back pain with difficult movement (Shanghai, p. 266);

» with St-33 and GB-34 for arthritis of the knee or paralysis of lower limb (Shanghai, p. 266).
