location: On the radial aspect of the wrist, in the depression between the tendons of the extensor pollicis longus and brevis muscles, the center of the anatomical snuff box.
actions: expels Wind and Heat; releases the Exterior; drains Fire; dissipates Heat from the Yang Ming (Large Intestine and Stomach); benefits the throat; stops pain; treats various skin disorders with itching
indications: crazy speech (So, 1985, p. 116); mad laughter; hallucinations; fever without perspiration; frontal headache; hemiplegia with loss of sensation; deafness; tinnitus; red, swollen and painful eyes; painful inner canthus; conjunctivitis; pterygium; epistaxis; toothache, esp. due to inflammation; neuralgia of the teeth; tongue root pain; tonsillitis; sore throat; cough with profuse expectoration; infantile indigestion; nervous palpitations; wrist pain; various skin disorders with itching
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.3 - 0.5 cun, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
