Qing Ying Tang = "Clear the Nutritive Level Decoction"

signs and symptoms: High fever (worse at night), restlessness, delirium, insomnia, macular rash.
tongue and pulse: Scarlet, dry tongue, and a thin, rapid pulse.
indications: Heat Entering the Ying (Nutritive) Level. With the appropriate presentation, this formula may be used in treating conditions conventionally diagnosed as pneumonia, encephalitis B, meningitis, and septicemia.
cautions and contraindications: Contraindicated in cases with Dampness.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 10 grams: fresh rehmannia (sheng di huang).
» 6 grams: rhinoceros horn (xi jiao) (substitute water buffalo horn), scrophularia (xuan shen), ophiopogon (mai men dong), lonicera (jin yin hua), forsythia (lian qiao).
» 3 grams: salvia (dan shen), bamboo leaf (zhu ye).
» 1 gram: coptis (huang lian).
modifications:
» for severe Qi-level Fire, add gypsum (shi gao).
» for tremors and spasms, add uncaria (gou teng), antelope horn (ling yang jiao) and lumbricus (di long).
» for Heat in the Pericardium with high fever, convulsive spasms, and impaired consciousness, begin the treatment with Bos and Curcuma F. (An Gong Niu Huang Wan). Once these symptoms have subsided, use the principal formula.
