Xi Cleft Accumulation point of the Hand Xiao Yin (Heart) channel
location: 0.5 cun proximal to wrist crease, on the radial side of flexor carpi ulnaris, with the palm up.
actions: pacifies the Shen; transforms Heart Phlegm; nourishes Heart Yin; helps check Yang hyperactivity (EAMSS, p. 227); clears Xu (Deficiency) Heat, esp. from Heart; clears Fire from the Heart; reduces excessive perspiration, esp. night sweats; eliminates itching
indications: hysteria; easily startled; frightened; sudden irritability and rage; delirium; insomnia; night sweats; fainting; headache; epistaxis; nasal obstruction; sudden muteness; tonsillitis; chest pain; fullness in chest; shortness of breath; hematemesis; palpitations; bradycardia; intercostal neuralgia; abdominal distension and pain; sudden diarrhea; endometritis; leukorrhea; brachial neuralgia; stiffness and pain along Heart channel due to Xue Yu (Blood Stasis); elbow stiffness; itching
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.1 - 0.5 cun, producing a local sensation of distension
moxa: 3 - 7 cones of direct moxa; 5 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with Kd-7 for night sweats due to Heart Yin Xu (Deficiency) (Maciocia, p. 401);
» with SI-3 and LI-4 for "night sweats and spontaneous perspiration" (Flaws, 1989, p. 70)
» with SI-3 for profuse night sweats (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 169).
