1. hot (110° F) saline solution sniffed up into nose or applied via syringe or dental water pik
2. the nostril being injected should be sealed off around the syringe
3. allow the saline to drain into the sink from the other nostril
4. for mouth: with head tilted to side over sink or basin, spray hot saline into mouth and allow fluid to run into sink; use 1 quart of fluid
