location: On the medial side of the popiteal fossa, between the tendons of semimembranosus and semitendinosus, with the knee flexed.
actions: tonifies the Kidney (especially Yin and Qi); dispels Heat (especially Lower Warmer); regulates Fluid balance; expels Dampness from the Lower Warmer; clears Heat in the Xue (Blood); stimulates testosterone (Finkelstein, p. 55); regulates and soothes the Lower Warmer; strengthens the knee
indications: hypersalivation; hernial disorders; abdominal pain radiating to umbilicus; abdominal distension; disease of urogenital systems; difficult, frequent and/or painful urination; dark yellow urine; blood in urine; uterine bleeding; metrorrhagia; constant leukorrhea; pruritus vulvae; genital pain and itching; impotence; scrotum damp and itchy; pain radiating to the genitals upon urination; pain in thighs; knees painful and cannot be flexed, especially medial aspect; arthritis of knee
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 1.0 - 2.0 cun
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 3 - 10 minutes of indirect moxibustion with a pole
