The Chinese organ Wei is translated as the Stomach
It is classified as a Fu organ, which is to say Yang in nature
Its channel is named Foot Yang Ming or Bright Yang

» The Major Functions of the Stomach include:
• Stomach is the Sea of Nourishment.
• Allows for the" rotting and ripening" of food.
• With the Spleen, is the root of Post-Natal Qi.

» Relationships of the Stomach:
• The channel is coupled with the Hand Yang Ming Large Intestine channel
• High tide in the channel occurs between the hours 7 to 9 am
• Its "clock" partner is the Pericardium (12 hours away)
• Its elemental pair is the Spleen - in the Earth phase
• Their color is yellow
• Its season is the Transition period between seasons, specifically Late Summer
• The direction from which its influence comes is the Center
• Its climate is humid
• Its power is that of maturation and ripening
• Its flavor is sweet
• Its odor is fragrant or aromatic

» Expressions of the Stomach:
• The Stomach controls the sense of taste through its sense organ, the mouth
• The body part or tissue it controls is the Flesh (the overall fleshiness of the body, representing the state of nourishment)
• The body fluid it secretes is saliva
• The Stomach's condition is observable in the lips (the limbs)
• When the Spleen is out of balance, pain, discomfort or abnormal sensations are commonly experienced and reported in the abdomen; sensitivity and/or tension may be elicited upon palpation in the abdominal area

» Roles of the Stomach:
• This organ produces feelings of belonging worry, pensiveness, obsessing
• The characteristic sound of the voice is singing, melodious
• It directs Qi downward

» Influences upon the Spleen:
• This organ is injured by the climatic factor Dryness
• is "strained" by too much sitting
• is "drained" by too much of the sweet and/or bitter flavor
• and is "overwhelmed" by excessive thinking, over-concentrating, reminiscing, worrying

» Foods that are said to benefit the Stomach:
• grain: millet
• meat: beef
• fruit: apricot
• vegetable: scallions

Major symptoms of Stomach disharmony include:
» Shi (Excess) patterns:
• Stomach Fire Blazing
• Stomach Qi Stagnation
• Stomach Yin Xu (Deficiency)

» general symptoms of Shi (Excess): abdominal area hot; overactive digestive system causing hunger and thirst; yellow urine; gluttony; halitosis; swollen gums; red dry lips; pains and cramps in legs.

» Xu (Deficiency) patterns:
• Stomach Deficient and Cold
• Stomach Invaded by Cold
• Stomach Qi Xu (Deficiency)
• Stomach Rebelling Upwards
• Stomach Xue Yu (Blood Stasis)
• Stomach Food Stagnation

» general symptoms of Xu (Deficiency): abdominal area cold and shivering; abdomen swollen and full; gastritis; loss of appetite; diarrhea; nausea; leg weakness.
