Vitality C. = Zhen Wu Tang = "True Warrior Decoction"

signs and symptoms: Abdominal pain worse with cold, abdominal distention, deep aching and heaviness in the extremities, lassitude, generalized edema, diarrhea, dizziness, a heavy sensation in the head, palpitations, coughing, vomiting, cold hands and feet.
tongue and pulse: Pale or dark, swollen tongue with teeth marks, a white, slippery tongue coating, and a deep, thin, and forceless pulse.
indications: Kidney Yang Xu (Deficiency) or Kidney and Spleen Yang Xu (Deficiency) with Edema. With the appropriate presentation, this formula may be used in treating conditions conventionally diagnosed as neurasthenia, hypothyroidism, primary hypertension, primary hyperaldosteronism, Meniere's disease, common cold, influenza, pneumonia, pleurisy, tuberculosis, chronic bronchitis, congestive heart failure, valvular diseases, gastrointestinal weakness, indigestion, cyclic vomiting, chronic enteritis, peritonitis, chronic diarrhea, ascites, liver cirrhosis, chronic hepatic disorders, renal atrophy, chronic nephritis, rheumatic pain, rheumatoid arthritis, and edema.
cautions and contraindications:
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 10 grams: white atractylodes (bai zhu), poria (fu ling).
» 9 grams: aconite (fu zi).
» 6 grams: white peony (bai shao yao), fresh ginger (sheng jiang).
modifications:
» for palpitations due to source Qi Xu (Deficiency), add ginseng (ren shen).
» for palpitations, wheezing, or coughing with copious, watery sputum, add asarum (xi xin) and schizandra (wu wei zi).
» for unremitting, spontaneous sweating due to Yang Xu (Deficiency), add ginseng (ren shen), astragalus (huang qi), schizandra (wu wei zi).
» for vomiting due to retention of pathogenic water in the Stomach with no signs of Lower Warmer dysfunction, omit aconite (fu zi) and increase the dosage of fresh ginger (sheng jiang).
» for painful obstruction of the chest, add trichosanthes seed (gua lou zi), bakeri onion (xie bai), cinnamon bark (gui zhi), salvia (dan shen).
» for urinary difficulty, aching and heaviness in the extremities, and edema, take with Hoelen Five F. (Wu Ling San) or Stephania and Astragalus C. (Fang Ji Huang Qi Tang).
» for cardiac edema with Yang Xu (Deficiency), add plantago seed (che qian zi), alisma (ze xie) and stephania (fang ji).
