» etiology: chronic anger causing Liver Qi Stagnation which implodes into Fire; excessive consumption of fatty and greasy foods produces Dampness which combines with Heat; climatic Damp-Heat in tropical or sub-tropical regions

signs and symptoms

signs and symptoms:

jaundice with bright yellow coloring

• fever

• painful flanks especially right hypochondrium

• hypochondriac distension

• fullness in the abdomen

inability to digest fats

• thirst without desire to drink

bitter taste

• nausea

• vomiting

• scanty dark yellow urine

» pulse: wiry, slippery, rapid

» tongue: red with greasy/sticky yellow coating, on one or both sides

» principle of treatment: disperse Heat in Gall Bladder; resolve Damp; promote smooth flow of Qi
