definition

si zhu kong = silken bamboo hollow
location: In the depression at the lateral end of the eyebrow, in the fronto-zygomatic suture.
actions: clears Fire and Heat; dispels Wind; moves Qi in the eyes; brightens the eyes; relieves pain; frees the channels and invigorates the collateral vessels
indications: insanity; hysteria with vision loss; seizures; headache, esp. lateral and midline headaches; vertigo; eye diseases; pain and swelling of the eyes; optic atrophy; color blindness; eyes twitch or blink independently; photophobia, inflammation and lacrimation from exposure to bright light, esp. from an electric bulb (Mann, p. 58); ingrown eyelash; blurred vision; facial paralysis; trigeminal neuralgia; pain in the submandibular region; vomiting of mucus and saliva
needle technique: transverse insertion, directed either posteriorly or toward yu yao, 0.3 - 1.0 cun, producing a local sensation of distension
moxa: moxibustion contraindicated
combinations:
» with TW-3 and GB-20 for migraine headache (Shanghai, p. 148);
» join TW-23 to GB-8, using transverse threading, to treat obstinate unilateral and ambilateral headaches (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 293);
» with UB-2, St-2 and St-4 for facial paralysis (Shanghai, p. 148);
» with UB-2 for red and swollen eyes (Shanghai, p. 148);
» with TW-21 relieves toothache immediately (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 292).
