Shi Pi Yin = "Bolster the Spleen Decoction"

signs and symptoms: Edema below the waist, poor appetite, no thirst, cold extremities, abdominal distention, a heavy sensation in the body, scanty urine, loose stools.
tongue and pulse: Thick, greasy tongue coating, and deep, slow or deep, thin pulse.
indications: Spleen and Kidney Yang Xu (Deficiency). With the appropriate presentation, this formula may be used in treating conditions conventionally diagnosed as rheumatic heart disease, congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, chronic nephritis.
cautions and contraindications:
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 6 grams: aconite (fu zi), dried ginger (gan jiang), poria (fu ling), white atractylodes (bai zhu), chaenomeles (mu gua), magnolia bark (hou po), saussurea (mu xiang), areca peel (da fu pi), cardamon (cao guo), honey-fried licorice (zhi gan cao).
» 2 grams: fresh ginger (sheng jiang) and jujube (da zao).
modifications:
» for scanty urine and severe edema, add alisma (ze xie) and polyporus (zhu ling).
