signs and symptoms: Chronic spermatorrhea without dreaming, impotence, fatigue, weakness in the limbs, lower back pain, tinnitus.
tongue and pulse: pale tongue with a white coating, and thin, frail pulse.
indications: Kidney Qi not Firm. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as impotence, spermatorrhea, nocturnal emission, enuresis, neurasthenia, and myasthenia gravis.
cautions and contraindications: Contraindicated in cases of Damp-Heat in the Lower-Warmer or Empty Fire Blazing.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 20 grams: astragalus seed (sha yuan ji li).
» 10 grams: rosa fruit (jing ying zi), cynomorium (suo yang), euryale (qian shi), lotus seed (lian rou), lotus stamen (lian xu), dragon bone (long gu), oyster shell (mu li).
modifications:
» for Kidney Yang Xu (Deficiency) with frequent urination, add psoralea (bu gu zhi) and cornus (shan zhu yu).
» for Empty Fire Blazing from Yin Xu (Deficiency) with wet dreams, irritability, insomnia, a dry, red tongue, and a thin, rapid pulse, add turtle shell (gui ban) and ligustrum (nu zhen zi).
» for constipation, add cistanches (rou cong rong) and Chinese angelica (tang kuei) (dang gui).
» for diarrhea, add psoralea (bu gu zhi), cuscuta (tu si zi) and schizandra (wu wei zi).
» for impotence, add cynomorium (suo yang), epimedium (yin yang huo), morinda (ba ji tian) and curculigo (xian mao).
» with lumbago, add eucommia bark (du zhong) and dipsacus (xu duan).
