dietary guidelines

eating principles:
» acute:
• increase fluids, especially soothing, immune-stimulating herbal teas
• short fruit or vegetable juice fast
» chronic:
• elimination/rotation diet, rotation diet, rotation diet expanded

therapeutic foods:
• foods rich in Vitamins A, B-complex, and E
• all Cooling and diuretic foods; food that clear Heat
• watermelon (including seeds), pears, carrots, pomegranate, celery, corn, mung beans, cornsilk tea, squash, wheat, water chestnuts, barley, red beans, millet, grapes, strawberries, lotus roots, loquat (Ni, p. 112)
• apples, asparagus, liquid chlorophyll, parsley, green leafy vegetables, mango, nectarines (Jensen, p. 63)

• simmer 250 g watercress in water, dissolve a small amount of brown sugar into the hot liquid and serve frequently (Chao-liang, Qing-rong, Bao-zhen, p. 37)
• crush 100 g scallions and stir-fry with a little salt. While still hot press to the navel, reheat and repeat several times (Chao-liang, Qing-rong, Bao-zhen, p. 85)

• Vitamin A 25,000-50,000 IU per day.
• Vitamin B-complex
• Vitamin B6
• Vitamin B5
• Vitamin C 5-10 g per day.
• Vitamin E 600 IU per day.

• Proteolytic enzymes, such as bromelain (Mori S, et al. Acta Obstet Gynaecol Jpn 1972;19:147-153.)

» drug interactions:
• Vitamin K and cephalosporins [cefuroxime (Ceftin), cephalexin (Cefanex, Keflet, Keflex, Keftab), cefixime (Suprax), cephadroxil (Duricef, Ultracef), cephaclor (Ceclor)]:
- cephalosporins interfere with Vitamin K metabolism, sometimes leading to hemmorhage (Anonymous, 1984; 42 (4): 162-163)
- cephalosporins reduce Vitamin K synthesis by destroying the colonic bacteria responsible for that process
