dosage:

» decoction: 1 oz. root to 1 pint water; drink 1 to 3 cups per day

» tincture: 2 - 5 ml.

specific indications: sense of weight and constriction, venous engorgement, dilated capillaries and muscular atony

therapy: stone and gravel of the urinary system and gallbladder, venous congestion/stasis, irritation of mucosa, hemorrhoids, hoarse throat (especially if from too much talking), diarrhea, proctitis, hypochlorhydria

» fresh root can be a potent irritant; internally it causes repeated purging and

extensive gastroenteritis; smaller doses causes a colicky pain

» use with caution; moderate doses cause severe gastrointestinal problems, beginning with emesis (Felter and Scudder, p. 316)
