dosages:

All dosages are an approximate single dose for adults (or average dose). The average dose is given two (twice daily) to three (three times daily) times a day.

All dosages are given in liquid tincture and/or dry powder (in grams) form. This implies a standard tincture strength of 1/5 or 20% (unless noted), prepared according to the National Formulary or British Herbal Pharmacopoeia. The liquid doses are in milliliters (ml.) or fractions thereof. In some cases drops (drops) are used. A word of caution on dispensing by drops is that one drop is equivalent to one minim, but with higher alcoholic tinctures, two to three drops will be needed to make one minim (15 minims = 1 ml.). Measuring dosages in milliliters makes for more accurate prescribing.

abbreviations used in dosages

Ø = tincture of 1/5 or 20% strength (not mother tincture, which is 1/10)

note on average dosages

Under this term are stated the dosages which may be expected ordinarily to produce the therapeutic effect for which the preparation is most commonly used. All average dosages refer to adults.

The average dosages are approximate and can vary considerably depending on the quality and production of the herb or extract. Inquire with the manufacturer as to herb sources, quality, and production techniques. Use only quality products.
