Integrative Therapies

definition

In its current form IBIS presents the therapeutic modalities individually in relation to the conditions which they treat. Yet most physicians and other healthcare providers are aware that what makes successful treatment is selection from not just one, but several modalities, to provide a comprehensive and evolving treatment program for the required condition, or more broadly, for the whole person.

This synergistic approach is at the heart of comprehensive medicine which uses the "best of all worlds" to most effectively assist our patients' healing. Medicine is not solely about isolating disease entities within the conventional western biomedical paradigm and treating "single diseases with single agents". In some places in the Therapeutics module, we have tried to show where a broader approach sheds light on the etiology of a particular complaint, and assists the choice of therapies.

In this light, we include a few items which reflect this way of thinking and practicing. One is an articulation of the ancient principles of alchemical medicine, applicable now as then to daily practice. The remainder are AIDS/HIV and gynecological treatments representative of the integrated therapeutics of naturopathic medicine. They reflect the more global considerations in which treatments are applied.

A principal goal of IBIS is to gather and disseminate information and research on effective medical practice.

We invite you to become part of this growing body of knowledge by recording your tried and tested insights and protocols in the miscellaneous section of your IBIS Notes, and sending them to us for evaluation and possible inclusion in future IBIS upgrades.
