Coptis and Rhubarb C.= Xie Xin Tang = "Drain the Epigastrium Decoction"

signs and symptoms: Fever, excitability and restlessness, flushed face, nosebleed, red eyes, dark urine, constipation; also for jaundice or diarrhea; or vomiting of blood; or ulcerations or abscesses.
tongue and pulse: Greasy, yellow tongue coating and red tip, with rapid pulse.
indications: Heart and/or Stomach Fire. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as conjunctivitis, stomatitis, vascular headache, mental instability, tinnitus, trigeminal neuralgia, hematemesis, acute gastroenteritis, gastritis, peptic ulcer, hepatitis, cholecystitis, dysentery, habitual constipation, hemorrhoids, hemorrhoidal bleeding, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, and flushed face.
cautions and contraindications:
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 10 grams: rhubarb (da huang).
» 9 grams: scute (huang qin).
» 6 grams: coptis (huang lian).
modifications:
» for trigeminal neuralgia, add scorpion (qian xie), scolopendra (wu gong) and cicada (chan tui).
» for dry mouth and tongue, add trichosanthes root (tian hua fen) and phragmites (lu gen).
» for severe abdominal pain, add corydalis (yan hu suo), sausurrea (mu xiang), melia (chuan lian zi) and chih-ko (zhi ke).
» for profuse perspiration and cold limbs, add aconite (fu zi).
