Xiao Huo Luo Dan = "Minor Invigorate the Collaterals Special Pill"

signs and symptoms: Chronic pain, weakness, and numbness, worse with cold, especially in the lower extremities; reduced range of movement.
tongue and pulse: In both conditions, the tongue coating is white and moist.
indications: Wind-Stroke or Wind-Cold-Damp Bi syndrome. With the appropriate presentation, this formula may be used in treating conditions conventionally diagnosed as hemiplegia after cerebrovascular accident, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and peripheral nervous disorders.
cautions and contraindications: Only use for patients with a relatively strong constitution. Contraindicated for patients with Yin Xu (Deficiency), or during pregnancy.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 180 grams: Sichuan aconite (chuan wu tou), aconite (cao wu tou), arisaema (tian nan xing), lumbricus (di long).
» 60 grams: mastic (ru xiang), myrrh (mo yao).
preparation: Grind the above ingredients into powder and make into pills with honey. Take twice a day in 3 gram doses on an empty stomach with wine or warm water.
modifications:
» for Damp-predominant disorders, add red atractylodes (cang zhu), stephania root (fang ji) and coix (yi yi ren).
» for Wind-predominant disorders, add large-leaf gentian root (qin jiao) and siler (fang feng).
» for severe pain, increase the dosage of mastic (ru xiang) and myrrh (mo yao).
» for Liver and Kidney Xu (Deficiency), take with Tu-huo and Vaeicum F. (Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang)
