bean pod tea (Phaseolus vulgaris): one handful to 1 pint water, boil down to half volume. Take half the remaining cup in the morning and half at night. (Weiss, p. 276)
tea to improve sugar tolerance: Cucurbita pepo (seed, peeled) + Valeriana spp. + Vaccinium myrtillus in equal parts. Infuse 1 tbsp. in 1 cup boiling water. instructions: Take 1 cup in the course of a day, unsweetened, in mouthful doses. (Lust, p. 471)

Abstract: Two water soluble extracts, GS3 and GS4, were given to IDDM diabetic rats. After 60 days the fasting glucose levels returned to normal. Both components were shown to double the number of ß-cells. During the study insulin levels rose to near normal.

Abstract: Defatted fenugreek seed powder (100mg divided into 2 equal doses) was placed in the diet of 10 IDDM patients between the ages of 12-37 years old for two 10 day periods to see the effect on blood glucose and serum lipid profiles. The fenugreek diet significantly reduced fasting blood sugar and improved glucose tolerance while there was a 54% reduction in daily urinary glucose excretion. Cholesterol LDL, VLDL cholesterol and triglycerides were significantly reduced. HDL stayed the same.
