shen tang = spirit hall
psychospiritual associated point of the Xin (Heart)
location: 3 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of T-5, level with GV-11.
actions: pacifies the Shen; clears the Brain; regulates the Heart Qi; expands and relaxes the chest; clears Heat
indications: mania; hysteria; depression; disorientation; anxiety; restlessness; fever and chills; "upper Qi"; bronchitis; asthma; cough; dyspnea; intercostal neuralgia; heart disease; stifling sensation in the chest; palpitations; chest pain; spasms and contracture of the upper back muscles, shoulder and back pain; contracture of the back and renal area
needle technique: slanted insertion, 0.5 - 0.8 cun, or oblique insertion, 0.3 - 0.5 cun
moxa: 5 -10 cones of direct moxa; 10 - 20 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with St-16, St-18, St-18, Kd-22, CV-17, GB-21, LI-11, Ht-1, PC-7, PC-2, SI-1, UB-16, UB-38/43, UB-18, UB-54/40 and St-36 for mastitis (Shanghai, p. 638).
