definition
he liao = grain bone-hole; also called "kou he liao"
location: Directly below the lateral margin of the nostril, 1/3 the distance down to the lip.
actions: dissipates Wind and clears Heat; rouses the Shen and stimulates the Mind; diffuses Lung Qi; clears Lung Heat; clears the nose and resolves epistaxis; removes Obstruction from the gums
indications: syncope; trismus; catarrhal deafness; nasal catarrh and obstruction; nasal polyp; ulceration of nose; anosmia; epistaxis; parotitis; facial paralysis; deviation of mouth; muscular spasm of face; clenched jaw;
needle technique: medial oblique insertion, 0.2 - 0.3 cun, producing a sensation of localized distension and pain
moxa: contraindicated according to many sources, esp. older books
