Rehmannia Eight F. = Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan = "Kidney Qi Pill from the Golden Cabinet"

signs and symptoms: Lower back pain, severe fatigue and lassitude, weakness of the lower extremities, cold sensation in the lower half of the body, weak or sluggish digestion.
tongue and pulse: pale, swollen tongue with a thin, white, and moist coating, and empty or frail pulse which is deep and faint at the chi position.
indications: Kidney Yang Xu (Deficiency). With the appropriate presentation, this formula may be used in treating conditions conventionally diagnosed as neurasthenia, edema, arthritis, hypothyroidism, chronic asthma, diabetes mellitus, primary hyperaldosteronism, dysuria, urinary incontinence, nocturia, chronic glomerular, interstitial or diffuse nephritis, chronic urethritis, prostatomegaly, nocturnal emission, premature ejaculation, impotence, lumbago, sciatica, numbness of the legs, and rectal prolapse.
cautions and contraindications: Contraindicated in cases of Yin Xu (Deficiency) with a dry mouth and throat and a red tongue with little coating, and in patients having chronic gastrointestinal weakness, frequent diarrhea, marked ascites, and facial flushing with fever.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 20 grams: prepared rehmannia (shu di huang).
» 10 grams: aconite (fu zi), cornus (shan zhu yu), dioscorea (shan yao), alisma (ze xie), poria (fu ling), moutan bark (mu dan pi).
» 6 grams: cinnamon bark (rou gui).
modifications:
» for urination at night, add schizandra (wu wei zi).
» for frequent, copious, and clear urination with emaciation, add psoralea (bu gu zhi) and deer antler (lu rong).
» for impotence, add morinda (ba ji tian), cistanches (rou cong rong), cynomorium (suo yang) and lycium fruit (gou qi zi).
» for edema of the lower extremities, take with Hoelen and Areca C. (Wu Pi Yin).
