Mu Alarm point of the Dan (Gall Bladder)

location: At the medial end of the 7th intercostal space, where the space ends in cartilage, approximately the mid-clavicular line.

actions: regulates Liver and Stomach; invigorates the Gall Bladder; spreads Liver Qi; cools and transforms Damp-Heat; redirects Rebellious Qi downward; harmonizes the Middle Warmer; relieves hypochondriac pain; causes contractions of the gallbladder to expel gallstones in ducts

indications: difficulty in speaking; frequent sighing; hypochondria; painful swallowing; vomiting; acid regurgitation; pyrosis; hiccoughs; "Kidney Qi rushes against the Heart" (Mann, p. 63); gastric and duodenal peptic ulcers; jaundice; liver disease; hepatitis; cholecystitis; cholelithiasis; acute diseases of biliary tract; warmth in lower abdomen; intercostal neuralgia; shoulder pain; spasms in limbs

needle technique: oblique or horizontal insertion, 0.5 - 0.8 cun; caution: avoid deep insertion

moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole

combinations:

» with GB-34A to spread, drain and disperse Qi of Gall Bladder (Finkelstein, p. 66);

» with Lv-14 and GB-34A to disperse Stagnation of Liver, ease Gall Bladder, disperse Damp-Heat, and regulate the Middle Warmer (Finkelstein, p. 66).
