Great Luo of the Stomach
location: 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline of the chest, in the 5th intercostal space, one rib below the nipple.
diagnostic uses: the pulse here can determine the state of the Jing (Essence) (Banever, p. 21)
actions: regulates Stomach Qi; facilitates circulation of Qi and Xue (Blood) in the Stomach channel, esp. to stop pain and/or drain Heat; regulates breast and lactation; expedites and facilitates flow of Qi and Xue (Blood) in the breast; dispels Stagnation
indications: belching; hiccough; hacking cough; asthma; pleurisy; bronchitis; coughing and shortness of breath with profuse phlegm; esophageal constriction with difficult ingestion; thoracic pain; stifling sensation in chest; insufficient lactation; carbuncle or cancer in the breast; mastitis; retained placenta; menstrual flow greater than nine days (Mann, p. 13); pain and swelling in arms
needle technique: transverse insertion, 0.5 - 1.0 cun, producing sensation to be felt inside the whole breast
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxibustion with a pole
