Baldness is a partial or complete loss of hair. It may result from genetic factors, aging, hormonal problems, disease, or physical injuries. Temporary baldness may be the result of scarlet fever, overdoses of vitamin A, drug reactions, dysfunction of the pituitary gland, stress, and may also follow a pregnancy. Children who seem to be losing hair should be checked for hair pulling. Hair loss due to scarring, such as in burns, injuries, or X-rays, is usually permanent.
Loss of hair accompanied by other symptoms of illness, such as fever, a skin rash, headaches, or vomiting, may indicate a serious condition. In this case, consult your physician. Also report suspected drug reactions to your physician.
THE FOLLOWING SUPPLEMENTS ARE USED AND CAN BE TAKEN UNTIL SYMPTOMS IMPROVE:
1. Beta-carotene Take 150,000 Units per day. Pregnant women (or women who may become pregnant) should not take more than 15,000 Units of Beta-carotene a day.
2. Vitamin C 1,000 milligrams twice a day.
3. Vitamin E 800 Units per day.
4. Vitamin B-complex 25 milligrams per day.
5. Selenium 200 micrograms per day.
6. Zinc 50 milligrams per day.
7. Inositol 500 to 1,000 milligrams per day.
8. Choline 1,000 milligrams per day.
9. Panthothenic acid 50 milligrams per day.
10. Biotin 25 milligrams per day.
11. Folic acid 1 milligram per day.
12. Glandular extracts of thyroid, pituitary, or adrenal are recommended. Take according to product label directions.
THE PROPER DIET FOR BALDNESS WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
1. An overall healthy diet Use fresh foods as close to the natural state as possible. Avoid processed and pre-packaged food. Eat daily servings of leafy green vegetables, whole grains, fruit, and proteins with a minimum of animal fat. As much as possible, avoid sugar foods such as candy, cake, cookies, etc. and refined carbohydrates such as white flour products.
2. Eliminate or at least greatly reduce consumption of coffee and alcohol. Caffeine will constrict the blood vessels and decrease nourishment to the hair.
3. Constipation or irregular bowel movements can aggravate the problem. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and add fiber to your diet. If you need more information, reefer to the article on constipation.
HERBS FOR BALDNESS:
1. Combine 1/4 cup of Cedar oil and 1/4 cup of Eucalyptus oil with 1/2 cup of Olive oil. Massage the oil mixture into the scalp twice daily where the hair loss is occurring. This stimulates the scalp.
2. Shampoo with products that contain Jojoba or Aloe Vera.
ADDITIONAL MEASURES FOR BALDNESS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
1. Regular physical exercise 3 or 4 times a week for at least 30 minutes to stimulate circulation.
2. Stress reduction is an important part of your program. Take leisure walks and do relaxation and breathing exercises. For more information, listen to our program on stress reduction.
3. There are various exercises to stimulate blood flow to the scalp and head. These must be used with caution and proper directions to prevent injury. Examples are laying on inclined boards or hanging upside down with gravity boots. These are not to be done by people with high blood pressure or circulation problems.
