definition and etiology

» conventional diagnoses: chronic fatigue syndrome; AIDS/HIV; insomnia; bronchitis; asthma; lumbago

» etiology: same as for Kidney Yin Xu (Deficiency), but usually with additional emotional stress to Lung caused by chronic worrying and/or grief; may also develop from chronic Lung Yin Xu (Deficiency)

signs and symptoms

signs and symptoms:

night sweats

• fever or sensation of heat in afternoon and evening

• tinnitus

• dry mouth

dry cough (worse in evening)

• dyspnea on exertion

• nocturnal emissions

• sensation of heat in palms and soles

• weak limbs

• low back soreness

» pulse: rapid, floating, empty

» tongue: red and peeled with two transversal cracks surface in Lung area. (Maciocia, p. 261)

course and prognosis

» principle of treatment: nourish Lung and Kidney Yin; increase body fluids
