Yuan Source, Shu Stream, Earth and Dispersion point of the Hand Xiao Yin (Heart) channel; Ghost point (Finkelstein, p. 32)
location: At the ulnar end of the wrist crease, on the radial side of tendon of flexor carpi ulnaris, with the palm up.
actions: opens the Orifices; stabilizes the Exterior and stops sweating, esp. night sweats; pacifies the Shen; stimulates secretion of fluids; calms the Heart; relieves palpitations, insomnia and fear; influences the thyroid (Worsley, 1975, p. B-20); lowers blood pressure and reduces irritability of cortex (Finkelstein, p. 33); general sedative and regulating effect on the inner organs; regulates and tonifies the Heart, esp. Heart Qi; tonifies and nourishes Heart Yin and Xue (Blood); removes Qi Stagnation in the Heart; clears Heart Fire and Heat; relieves pain, esp. lateral costal pain; frees the channels
indications: insanity; mania; forgetfulness; loquacity; hysteria; excess crying; sighing; excess laughter; anxiety; fear, esp. fear of cold; any emotional excess; "face purple and raving, likes to laugh; frightened, laughing and sobbing alternating; hallucinations" (Maciocia, p. 402); insomnia due to excitement, excessive dreaming or thinking; seizures; mental retardation in children (Maciocia, p. 402); hypertension; cold sweat; migraine; inflammation of the nose; nasal obstruction; red face; desire for cool drinks; loss of speech; loss of taste and appetite; pale tongue; swollen tongue; hypoglossus muscle paralysis; dry throat; tonsillitis; hemoptysis; shortness of breath, esp. with a hot body (Mann, p. 24); lateral intercostal pain; cardiomegaly; cardiac edema; warmth and pain in cardiac area; palpitations; irregular cardiac rhythm; fibrillation; postpartum hemorrhage; urinary incontinence; bed wetting; fluid retention; cold hands and feet. Reported to be more effective for calming the Shen when treating men and Xu (Deficiency), while PC-7 is more effective for treating women and Shi (Excess) patterns. (Maciocia, p. 436).

moxa: 1 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 10 - 15 minutes of indirect moxibustion with a pole
