location: Between the medial end of the cubital crease and the medial epicondyle of the humerus with the elbow slightly flexed.
actions: pacifies the Shen and Soul; enhances stability with nervous exhaustion; clears Heat; regulates the Heart Qi; removes Obstructions from the channels; relaxes the muscles and sinews; invigorates the collateral vessels
indications: depression; forgetfulness; hypomania; disorientation; psychosis; bleating, sheep-like sounds (Mann, p. 23); epilepsy; fainting; trembling in infants (Mann, p. 23); mental retardation; Parkinson's disease; glandular diseases; fever with sensation of cold; headache, esp. due to Wind or Cold; eyes dizzy; diplopia; facial neuralgia; toothache; stiff neck; scrofulous swellings; adenitis; shoulder pain with chest pain; cardiac pain; pleurisy; productive cough; breast pain; intercostal neuralgia; shoulder and elbow problems; torticollis; paralysis of limbs; shoulder and arm spasms; ulnar nerve neuralgia; hands and fingers cold; trembling and shaking of hand; pruritus
needle technique: perpendicular or oblique insertion, 0.3 - 0.5 cun
moxa: 3 - 7 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxibustion with a pole
combinations:
» Ht-3 and St-33 (d. D), five cones each, red bean size, and GV-14 (d. D), seven cones, for Parkinson's disease (So, 1987, p. 294; McWilliams, et al., Lesson 31, p. 179);
» with an mian and Sp-6 for neurasthenia (Shanghai, p. 252);
» with PC-6 for heart pain;
» with St-33 for chest pain with tremors of the hand (Shanghai, p. 252);
» with LI-10 for numbness in the arm (Shanghai, p. 252).
