Capillaris C. = Yin Chen Hao Tang = "Artemisia Yinchenhao Decoction"

signs and symptoms: Whole-body jaundice, upper abdominal distention, urinary difficulty with dark urine, constipation, thirst.
tongue and pulse: Yellow, greasy tongue coating, and slippery, rapid pulse.
indications: Liver Damp-Heat. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as urticaria, pruritus, stomatitis, gingivitis, ophthalmic disorders, jaundice, acute hepatitis, cirrhosis, cholecystitis, malaria, leukemia, nephritis, and uterine bleeding.
cautions and contraindications: Unless modified, contraindicated for Yin-type jaundice or jaundice in which Dampness predominates. Rhubarb (da huang) should be used with extreme caution during pregnancy.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 9 grams: capillaris (yin chen hao).
» 6 grams: rhubarb (da huang).
» 3 grams: gardenia (zhi zi).
modifications:
» for high fever and other signs of severe Heat, add gentiana (long dan cao), isatis (ban lan gen) and knotweed (hu zhang).
» for fever and chills, add forsythia (lian qiao) and chrysanthemum flower (ye ju hua).
» for hypochondriac pain and other signs of Liver Qi Stagnation, add bupleurum (chai hu), melia (chuan lian zi), cyperus (xiang fu) and white peony (bai shao yao).
» for hypochondriac pain and abdominal distention, add curcuma (yu jin) and chih-shih (zhi shi).
» for nausea, vomiting, and reduced appetite, add bamboo shavings (zhu ru), pinellia (ban xia) and massa fermentata (shen qu).
» for cholelithiasis, add lysimachia (jin qian cao).
