» contraindicated during pregnancy, may act as an abortifacient, oxytocic and emmenagogue (Brinker, p. 31)

» acute toxicity: causes vomiting and purging, with chest pains, dyspnea, vertigo, decreased pulse rate, mydriasis, pallor, anesthesia and cold extremities which may appear cyanotic; sensory disturbances can occur with hallucinations, myocardial infarction; convulsions precede death (Cain, p. 474; Ellingwood, p. 141)

» chronic toxicity: causes neuralgia, and a numbness of extremities; opisthotonic

contractions may occur, exhaustion, death may then ensue (Cain, p. 474; Ellingwood, p. 141)
