Luo Connecting point of the Hand Tai Yin (Lung) channel with the Hand Yang Ming (Large Intestine) channel; Exit point of the Hand Tai Yin (Lung) channel; Master point of the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel); Couple point of the Yin Qiao Mai (Yin Motility Vessel); Command point of the head and back of the neck; takes Yuan (Original) Qi back to the Lung that has not been absorbed by the Yang Ming and therefore ensures the Qi feedback into the Kidney (Metal to Water) (Finkelstein, p. 3)
location: On the forearm, 1.5 cun proximal to the transverse crease of the wrist, superior to the styloid process of the radius.
actions: circulates the Wei (Protective) Qi to expel Wind, dispel Cold, and disperse the Exterior; promotes sweating; opens the nose; benefits the throat and ears; treats Shi (Excess) patterns, esp. acute; opens the Lung; spreads Lung Qi by stimulating the descending and dispersing of Lung Qi; calms wheezing; resolves Phlegm and clarifies Mucus; opens and regulates the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel); regulates the Yin Qiao Mai (Yin Motility Vessel); effects release of sexual hormones; stimulates the Lung function of dominating Water Pathways and controlling edema, esp. in the lungs; communicates with the Large Intestine; tonifies Yang Ming (Stomach and Large Intestine); promotes diuresis by descending the Turbid; invigorates the collateral vessels
indications: chills; mad laughter; forgetfulness; trembling; petit mal; epilepsy; hemiplegia; headache; migraine; facial paralysis; unilateral head or facial pain; trigeminal neuralgia; tic douloureux; clenched jaws (TMJ); unable to open mouth or speak; mouth dry; toothache; influenza; sore throat; swelling of pharynx; stiff neck; dyspnea; coughing, esp. with thick Phlegm; asthma; vomiting with bubbling saliva; melancholy feeling in lower part of the chest (Mann, p. 4); swelling and pain along with sternum; pain and itching along anterior midline of abdomen and chest; pain and inflammation of umbilicus; hemorrhoids; burning sensation during urination; blood in the urine; penile pain and redness; spermatorrhea; cold in the back; neuralgia of shoulder and arm with shaking of upper limb; weakness of the wrist; edema of the limbs; middle of palm hot and painful; limbs ice cold; Wind rash, such as urticaria; dry skin
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.5 - 0.8 cun, or oblique insertion, angled toward the elbow, 0.2 - 1.0 cun, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension, possibly spreading toward the elbow. Direct proximally to affect lungs; distally to affect wrist and hand
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with Sp-9 regulates the Fluid system (Finkelstein, p. 3);
» with LI-4, GB-20 and TW-5 disperse External Cold; to release the Exterior and abort common cold, influenza or other initial stages of acute illness, esp. if characterized by sneezing, headache, shoulder and neck tension, aversion to cold, and a floating pulse;
» with TW-5 disperses the Exterior (Finkelstein, p. 3);
» "yu yao", "St-2.5", "TW-16/east wind", "LI-10.5", Lu-7 and "St-43", with other points sensitive to palpation, for sinusitis and glandular/lymphatic exhaustion, esp. with a primary focal infection in the sinuses and oropharyngeal mucous membranes (Matsumoto); note: "Lu-7", as with the others, is an approximation, the effective point is the one which responds to palpation, esp. if it releases other reactive points;
