• Gu Jing Wan = "Stabilize the Menses Pill"

signs and symptoms: Continuous uterine bleeding with dark red or purple blood, may contain dark-purple clots, red face, dry mouth, leukorrhea, sensation of heat and irritability in the chest, dark urine.
tongue and pulse: red tongue with yellow coating, and rapid, wiry pulse.
indications: Liver Qi Stagnation Giving Rise to Heat Which Disturbs the Chong Mo and Conception Vessels. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as functional uterine bleeding, menorrhagia and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.
cautions and contraindications:
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 9 grams: tortoise plastron (gui ban).
» 6 grams: red peony (chi shao yao), scute (huang qin), phellodendron (huang bai), cyperus (xiang fu).
» 3 grams: ailanthus bark (chun pi).
modifications:
» for more severe Yin Xu (Deficiency) characterized by menstruation that lingers on with scanty, red blood, malar flush, hot palms and soles, dry throat and mouth, red tongue with little coating, and a thin, fast pulse, omit scute (huang qin) and cyperus (xiang fu) and add lycium bark (di gu pi) and prepared rehmannia (shu di huang).
