Magnolia and Ginger C. = Ping Wei San = "Calm the Stomach Powder"

signs and symptoms: Digestive weakness, abdominal distention, loss of appetite, borborygmus after eating, belching, acid regurgitation, loose stool or diarrhea, fatigue, a heavy sensation in the limbs, increased desire to sleep.
tongue and pulse: Swollen tongue with a thick, white, and greasy coating, and moderate or slippery pulse.
indications: Stagnant Damp-Cold in the Spleen and Stomach. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as acute and chronic gastritis, gastrectasis, peptic ulcer, indigestion, obesity, parasitic diseases, gastrointestinal weakness, and to induce labor.
cautions and contraindications: Use only with significant modification for patients with Yin or Xue (Blood) Xu (Deficiency). Use with caution during pregnancy.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 6 grams: white atractylodes (bai zhu), magnolia bark (hou po).
» 3 grams: citrus (chen pi), licorice (gan cao), jujube (da zao).
» 1 gram: fresh ginger (sheng jiang).
modifications:
» for severe Damp-Cold with generalized cold and pain, add cinnamon bark (rou gui) and dry ginger (gan jiang).
» for Damp-Heat with a bitter taste in the mouth, dry throat with no thirst, and a yellow, greasy tongue coating, add scute (huang qin) and coptis (huang lian).
» for severe vomiting, add pinellia (ban xia).
» for more Spleen Xu (Deficiency) marked by a loss of appetite with less distention and fullness, substitute white atractylodes (bai zhu) for red atractylodes (cang zhu) and add astragalus (huang qi) and dioscorea (shan yao).
» for gallstones, add capillaris (yin chen hao), gardenia (zhi zi) and curcuma (yu jin).
» for delayed labor or fetal death with a similar presentation, add mirabilitum (man xiao) and chih-shih (zhi shi).
