Bamboo Leaves and Gypsum C. = Zhu Ye Shi Gao Tang = "Lophatherus and Gypsum Decoction"

signs and symptoms: Lingering fever (from a febrile disease), vomiting, delicate constitution, extreme thirst, choking cough, discomfort in the chest, nightmares, insomnia, and irritability.
tongue and pulse: Red tongue with little coating, and weak, rapid pulse.
indications: Qi-Level Heat in the Lungs and Stomach. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as common cold, pharyngitis, influenza, pneumonia, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, pertussis, pulmonary emphysema, tuberculosis, measles, scarlet fever, nephritis, or diabetes mellitus.
cautions and contraindications:
ingredients: dosage for one day:
» 10 grams: gypsum (shi gao).
» 6 grams: ophiopogon (mai men dong), oryza (jing mi).
» 4 grams: pinellia (ban xia).
» 3 grams: ginseng (ren shen).
» 2 grams: bamboo leaves (zhu ye), honey-baked licorice (zhi gan cao).
modifications:
» for Stomach Qi and Yin Xu (Deficiency) without strong Stomach Heat signs, omit gypsum (shi gao).
» for Stomach Yin Xu (Deficiency) with aphthous ulcerations and a red, dry tongue, add trichosanthes root (tian hua fen) and dendrobium (shi hu).
» for Stomach Fire Blazing with persistent hunger, add trichosanthes root (tian hua fen) and anemarrhena (zhi mu).
