Linking Decoction = Yi Guan Jian

signs and symptoms: Hypochondriac and chest pain, abdominal distention, dry mouth, acid regurgitation.
tongue and pulse: Red and dry tongue, and thin, frail or deficient, wiry pulse.
indications: Liver and Kidney Yin Xu (Deficiency) with Qi Stagnation. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as essential hypertension, hypertension during pregnancy, Addison's disease, thrombocytopenic purpura, tuberculosis, costochondritis, chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, peptic ulcer, diabetes mellitus, chronic orchitis, and neurasthenia.
cautions and contraindications: Contraindicated for pain and distention from Dampness or Phlegm.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 10 grams: fresh rehmannia (sheng di huang).
» 6 grams: glehnia (bai sha shen), ophiopogon (mai men dong), Chinese angelica (tang kuei) (dang gui), lycium fruit (gou qi zi).
» 3 grams: melia (chuan lian zi).
modifications:
» for headache, dizziness, blurred vision, or other signs of Liver Wind, add white peony (bai shao yao) and scrophularia (xuan shen).
» for severe Yin Xu (Deficiency) with a dry tongue, add dendrobium (shi hu).
» with night sweats, add lycium bark (di gu pi).
» for severe abdominal pain, add white peony (bai shao yao) and licorice (gan cao).
» for weakness in the lower extremities, add achyranthes (niu xi) and coix (yi yi ren).
» for hypertension with more severe Liver and Kidney Xu (Deficiency), add loranthus (sang ji sheng).
» for hypertension with more Liver Heat, add prunella spicule (xia ku cao) and scute (huang qin).
