diagnostic uses: acts as an abdominal reflection of Sp-6, which is also named "yin crossing" also hardness to palpation indicates Kidney Xu (Deficiency) (Matsumoto)
location: 1 cun below the umbilicus on the midline of the lower abdomen.
actions: warms and supplements Kidney Yang; regulates (D) and clears Obstruction from (-) the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel); regulates menses and the Xue (Blood); controls Xue (Blood) in the Uterus; stimulates testes and all sex hormones (Finkelstein, p. 87)
indications: postpartum anger, frustration and psychosis; fainting; non-closure of fontanelles in infants; epistaxis; acute tonsillitis; abdominal pain and/or distension; tympanites; acute hypogastric pain; periumbilical pain and coldness; pain due to hernia; fecal and urinary stoppage; urethritis; edema; postpartum hemorrhage; irregular menstruation; metrorraghia; menorraghia; vaginal discharge, esp. after childbirth; sterility; genital sweating and itching; pain and spasm of the lumbar spine and knees
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 1.0 - 2.0 cun, producing a sensation of distension and numbness downward along the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) to the external genitalia
moxa: 5 - 10 cones of direct moxa; 10 - 30 minutes of indirect moxibustion with a pole
