signs and symptoms: Common cold in the summertime, aversion to cold, skin warm to the touch, no sweating, heavy head or headache, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea or hard stools, a stifling sensation in the chest, absence of physical strength.
tongue and pulse: White, greasy tongue coating, floating pulse.
indications: Exterior Cold with Interior Dampness contracted in the summer. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as common cold or chills in the summer, headache, fever, stress, thirst, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, gastroenteritis, bacillary dysentery, and cholera.
cautions and contraindications: Contraindicated for patients with Summer-Heat or with common cold in the wintertime.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 9 grams: elsholtzia (xiang ru).
» 6 grams: dolichos (bai bian dou), magnolia bark (hou po).
modifications:
» for severe cold with nasal obstruction, take with Scallion and Prepared Soybean Decoction (Cong Chi Tang).
