definition and etiology

» conventional diagnoses: common cold; acute or chronic bronchitis; bronchial asthma.

» etiology: weakness of Qi, esp. Wei (Protective) Qi, with probable exposure to wind and/or cold

signs and symptoms

signs and syptoms:

aversion to cold

• chills

• slight fever

• headache

• body ache

• lack of perspiration

• cough and stuffy or runny nose with thin watery mucous

sneezing

• asthma

» pulse: floating, esp. in right distal position; tight

» tongue: thin white coating

course and prognosis

» principle of treatment: expel Wind; release the Exterior; scatter Cold; tonify the Lung; stimulate Lung descending and dispersing function
