Jing River and Fire point of the Foot Tai Yang (Bladder) channel
location: Level with the tip of the lateral malleolus, in the depression midway between the lateral malleolus and the Achilles tendon.
actions: disperses Wind; promotes Qi function and Xue (Blood) circulation; benefits the Brain and Marrow; influences the pituitary and testes (Worsley, 1975, p. B-20), specifically effects the anterior lobe (Finkelstein, p. 50); disperses masses (e.g., goiter); reinforces the Kidney; regulates the fluid system; rectifies Xue Yu (Blood Stasis) in the Uterus; expedites labor; expels placenta after birth; strengthens the lower back; descends the Turbid; relaxes the sinews, tendons and muscles of the neck, shoulder, waist, back, ankle and foot, esp. the lower back; frees the channels and collateral vessels; relieves pain
indications: infantile fright; seizures; childhood convulsions; spasms; tidal fevers; headache; lightheadedness; vertigo; visual dizziness; eye pain; epistaxis; stiff neck; goiter; dyspnea; neck, shoulder and upper back pain; brachial neuralgia; hypertonicity of shoulder and arm; difficult delivery; retained placenta; hemorrhoids; pain of the lower back, sacrum and buttocks; sciatica; pain in thigh; paralysis of lower limb; diseases of the ankle joint and surrounding soft tissues; ankle and heel pain; ankle edema; rheumatism of the feet; foot swelling; pain in the sole of the foot
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, either joined to Kd-3, or inclined slightly toward the lateral malleolus, 0.5 - 1.0 cun, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension, possibly spreading toward the little toe; when treating goiter, use a slanted insertion, needle directed upward or joined to UB-59, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension, possibly spreading to the heel or toe (Shanghai, p. 282); needling is contraindicated in pregnancy
moxa: 3 - 7 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 15 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
