signs and symptoms: Common cold with mild headache, chills without sweating, cough with watery sputum, stuffy nose, dry throat.
tongue and pulse: Dry, white tongue coating, and wiry pulse.
indications: Wind-Cold with Cough. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as common cold, influenza, acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, and emphysema.
cautions and contraindications:
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 9 grams: poria (fu ling).
» 6 grams: apricot seed (xing ren), perilla leaf (zi su ye), chih-ko (zhi ke), platycodon (jie geng), peucedanum (qian hu), pinellia (ban xia).
» 3 grams: citrus (chen pi), fresh ginger (sheng jiang), licorice (gan cao), jujube (da zao).
modifications:
» for headache involving the supraorbital ridge, add angelica (bai zhi).
» for diarrhea and a sensation of fullness in the abdomen, add red atractylodes (cang zhu) and magnolia bark (hou po).
» with Internal Heat, add scute (huang qin).
