zhong lu shu = central backbone hollow; middle of the backbone correspondence
Extra Associated point of the sacrum (Mann, p. 36)
location: 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of S-3, level with the 3rd sacral foramen.
actions: dispels Wind and Cold; affects Lower Warmer; strengthens the back, esp. sacrum
indications: no perspiration; abdominal pain; enterocolitis; hemorrhoids; diarrhea; dysentery, esp. with red and white particles; leukorrhea; impotence; spinal pain and stiffness; pain on both sides of the spine from the neck to the sacrum; lumbago; sciatica; pain in lower back during menstruation; hernia and accompanying groin pain
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 1.0 - 1.5 cun, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension, sometimes spreading to the buttocks
moxa: 3 - 7 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 15 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with UB-11 and TW-16 lowers temperature and reduces fever (Finkelstein, p. 46).
