Mu Alarm point of the Shen (Kidney)
location: On the inferior border of the free end of the 12th rib.
actions: tonifies the Kidney; sedates and/or warms Kidney Yang; influences Kidney Yin; clears and regulates Water Pathways; resolves Dampness; regulates the Stomach; removes Qi Stagnation; relaxes muscles, sinews and tendons; calms the fetus; invigorates the channels
indications: alternate fever and chills; asthma; dyspnea; abdominal distension; lower abdominal cramps; borborygmi; diarrhea, esp. associated with fear or fright; lower burning, wasting and thirsting syndrome; restless fetus due to Kidney Xu (Deficiency); painful urinary dysfunction; dark yellow urine; nephritis; kidney pain or prolapse; shoulder pain; intercostal neuralgia; low back pain; cannot bend forward; pain in hip joint; cannot remain standing for extended periods
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.5 - 1.0 cun; needle toward the spine as part of navel treatment (Nagano as per Matsumoto)
moxa: 3 - 7 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 15 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
