dietary guidelines

eating principles:
• short water or alkaline fast, 2-3 days (see Fasting in materia medica)
• when diarrhea and/or nausea subsides increase to a liquid diet and follow rules for breaking fast (see Fasting in materia medica)

specific remedies:
• tea of ginger and grapefruit peel three times daily (Ni, p. 148)
• scallion and ginger tea twice daily (Ni, p. 148)
• tea from ginger, orange peels, and brown sugar (Ni, p. 148)
• steam 9 g grapefruit peel, and 12 g Chinese salted brown olives in 600-700 ml water until olives are fully cooked. Generally this remedy should relieve morning sickness after eating it 5-7 times. (Lu, p. 152)
• boil 15-20 g grapefruit peel in water. Drink tea. (Lu, p. 152)
• fry 250 g sweet rice with 30 ml fresh ginger juice until the rice breaks; grind into powder. Take l0-20 g in warm water each time, twice daily. (Lu, p. 152)
• bring 60 ml rice vinegar to a boil; add 30 g sugar and stir until dissolved; break the egg into the boiling vinegar; When the egg is cooked, drink the whole thing (Lu, p. 152)
• soda crackers before getting out of bed in the morning (Shefi)
• 1/2 oz. fresh ginger, 1/2 oz. dried orange peel. Boil in 1 pt. water until reduced by half. Drink while hot. (Butt and Bloomfield, p. 152)
• take 30-40 g fresh apple skin and 30 g rice which has been stir-fried golden brown. Add water and simmer until cooked. Drink in place of tea. (Yin-fang and Cheng-jun, p. 45)
• take 100 g sweet potato vine, cut into small pieces, add salt and stir-fry until it begins to scorch. Add water and simmer until cooked. (Chao-liang, Qing-rong, Bao-zhen, p. 15)
• simmer sliced radishes, 3 slices of fresh ginger and a little honey in water and serve (Chao-liang, Qing-rong, Bao-zhen, p. 12)
for dehydration after vomiting :
• juice from a fresh coconut with 30 g sugar and dash salt dissolved in it, drink one cup three times daily for 3 days (Yin-fang and Cheng-jun, p. 86)
