signs and symptoms: Coughing, fever with or without sweating, thirst, wheezing, difficulty breathing.
tongue and pulse: Yellow tongue coating, and slippery, rapid pulse.
indications: Lung Wind-Heat. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as common cold, pneumonia, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, cardiac asthma, pertussis, diphtheria, measles, pneumonitis from measles, and bronchiolitis.
cautions and contraindications: Contraindicated for Wind Cold and in cases with Qi Xu (Deficiency).
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 15 grams: gypsum (shi gao).
» 6 grams: ephedra (ma huang), apricot seed (xing ren).
» 3 grams: honey-baked licorice (gan cao).
modifications:
» for severe Heat, add lonicera (jin yin hua), forsythia (lian qiao), scute (huang qin), and houttuynia (yu xing cao).
» for stubborn asthma, add pinellia (ban xia), trichosanthes fruit (gua lou), citrus (chen pi), chih-shih (zhi shi) and fresh ginger (sheng jiang).
» for chills and no sweating, add schizonepeta (jing jie), mentha (bo he) and soya (dan dou chi).
