location: On the palm, between and slightly proximal to the heads of the 2nd and 3rd metacarpals.
actions: pacifies the Shen; clears the Brain; revives consciousness; soothes irritability; regulates the Heart (esp. Qi and Yang); cools and clears Heat from the Heart and Shen; drains and disperses Heat from the Pericardium; clears Fire and Summer-Heat; relieves heat sensation of chest, palms and soles; transforms Damp-Heat; cools Heat in the Xue (Blood); harmonizes the Stomach
indications: anger; incessant sadness or laughter; incoherent speech; mania and withdrawal; apprehensiveness; fright; sensation of Qi rising upward to the top of the body; the "five epilepsies"; stroke; heat exhaustion; high fever and delirium; fever without perspiration; heat stroke; body cannot turn; epistaxis; ulcerated oral cavity; very thirsty; halitosis; vomiting; indigestion; stomach pain; jaundice; rheumatic heart disease; hemorrhoids; bloody stool or urine; hand tremors; writer's cramp; contracture of palmar aponeurosis; fungal infections of the hands and feet
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.3 - 0.5 cun, producing a local sensation of distension and pain, and/or distension and numbness of the whole hand; "do not stimulate this point with the needle more than twice; it will cause the heart to be weakened" (So, 1985, p. 108)
moxa: 1 - 3 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
